I don't know if this will help but I have had some experience using
something that was developed for what seems to be your purpose: it's
called Autorun and is available from here (under 'simulation
plugins') http://www.robocuprescue.org/tools.html

I have significant experience with making it work with the latest
version of the simulator (although that was about a year ago so it
might take some remembering!) and the functionality is built into the
ECSKernel tool, which won the infrastructure competition this year :)
