attached mail follows:
Dear all,
1. Some teams have been asking on whether it is possible
to know the travel support before they actually register.
It is indeed possible.
Once the league and the team are chosen the base fee becomes
visible in the corresponding visualization box.
The travel support becomes visible only after the team leader
email is entered correctly AND the cursor is moved out
out of the team leader email input field.
2. Teams for which the travel support completely covers the registration
fee will have the excess value payed back during the event (this
value is shown in the corresponding visualization box).
3. We tested, successfully, the registration form against current
versions of most common browsers (these covering 99% of the
intenet accesses to the ISR website), including IE 6+, Netscape 6+,
Mozilla 1.6, under Win 2000, Linux, XP Pro and Mac OS 9.* systems.
For old browser versions, e.g., Netscape 4.5 and 4.7* the
registration form does not work properly.
Whatever the browser used for the registration, it must be
Java enabled.
Otherwise the registration form will not work properly.
4. Some teams have been asking whether or not the
Organizing Committee would allow onsite registrations.
Although it may been accepted on previous
events, the dimension of the RoboCup 2004 is such that adopting
a loose registration policy could cause serious logistics problems.
Furthermore, common security policies applied to RoboCup require
that the Organizing Committee be very strict on issuing invitation
letters. The practical result is that invitation letters are being
issued only for people duly registered.
Therefore, onsite registrations will not be accepted.
5. Some people expressed some concern about the terminology
adopted to refer the nationality of the teams from Taiwan,
indicating that they may prefer to have their nationality
defined as Chinese Taipei.
This kind of issue goes far beyhond the concerns of the
Organizing Committee which are scientific and organizational.
United Nations discussions and resolutions have been providing
basis terminology on this subject, namely "Taiwan Province of China"
and "Republic of China on Taiwan" to designate the same territory
under the two well known different political perspectives.
Taiwan is clearly a common denominator to the two designations
and it is therefore adopted by the RoboCup 2004 Organizing Committee
to informally designate the nationality of people from the island
of Formosa.
Any official documents or positions from the RoboCup 2004
Organization must, of course, stick to the official Portuguese
diplomatic position on this issue, which is "Portugal recognizes
the Peoples Republic of China".
People from Taiwan must ask for their visas at the
nearest Portuguese embassy/consulate.
Please do not hesitate in contacting me on any
registration issue.
Yours sincerely
