6th ROBOCUP 2004 NEWS
(http://www.robocup2004.pt/)

Summary: Registration | Cargo Shipping | Security | Site Opening Hours

*Preamble* This newsletter has very important information concerning
participation in RoboCup2004. Please take some minutes to carefully read it.

* REGISTRATION: The period for registration in RoboCup2004 is now over,
except for Junior teams which will last till June 6. Almost all
qualified teams have registered with very few exceptions. The final
status of registration is as follows (these figures refer only to teams
that have filled and submitted the registration form - see below):
- MSL, complete (i.e., all qualified teams are registered);
- SSL, complete;
- 4-legged, complete;
- humanoids, 11 teams registered, 6 teams not registered;
- soccer simulation, 38 teams registered, 2 not registered;
- robot rescue, 16 teams registered, 4 not registered;
- rescue simulation, 19 registered, 1 not registered;
- e-league, 4 teams registered, 1 not registered.

Based on this, we will have a total of 156 teams and 904 participants,
excluding Junior.

However, some of the registered teams have not paid yet. The
registration process will only be completed after payment. Teams that do
not pay until May 25 will not be allowed to participate in RoboCup2004.
So, we urge all teams in this situation to handle payment *now*.

* CARGO SHIPPING: Cargo shipping will be managed by Rntrans SA. They are
part of a worldwide network of shipping/forwarding agents covering all
the countries with teams involved in the RoboCup 2004 event. You may
take advantage of that to send your equipment or simply send it through
your own agent to their warehouse. In either case, Rntrans will
transport the equipment later to the venue, but some transportation
charges apply.

Warehousing services by RNTrans SA will be free. The transportation
between RNTrans warehouse and FIL will be charged at regular prices
(35,29 EUR/m3 + VAT at 19%). Contact RNTrans SA for details
(fairs@rntrans.pt).

The shipping address is:

RNTRANS WAREHOUSE
Event: RoboCup 2004
Rua Pereira Henriques 5,
Poço do Bispo
1900-790 Lisboa
Portugal

Teams are free to use the services of alternative transportation
agencies. However, these will not be allowed to operate inside FIL-Feira
Internacional de Lisboa. The team must be present at delivery of cargo
and ensure the transportation between the entrance of FIL and Pavillion
4 (inside FIL). In this case, the cargo is expected to arrive on June 26
(business schedule) and to leave the RoboCup 2004 site no later than
July 4. The shipping address directly to FIL is:

FIL, Pavilhão 4,
R. do Bojador,
Parque das Nações,
1998-010 Lisboa
Portugal

For further details on this, visit our web page in
http://www.robocup2004.pt/participants/visaAndCargo/

* SECURITY: As you all know EURO2004, the european soccer championship,
will take in Portugal from June 12 to July 4. Because of that portuguese
authorities have very strict rules for ensuring the security of all of
us (those who live in and visit Portugal during this period).

In a recent meeting of João Sequeira, our Registration Chair, with
Lisbon police, they have asked some information from participants and
gave some advices to the participants. In order to comply with the
police requests, we urge all team leaders to send to
secretariat@robocup2004.pt the following material (a pdf file is enough):

- a group photo of all robots that your team will bring to Lisbon in
their own luggage;
- identification of the hotel or "Pensao" or "Residencial" where you
will stay;
- arrival date;
- name of team leader and team designation.

According to the portuguese police this will facilitate passing through
customs, mainly the robots. RoboCup2004 organization cannot ensure you a
complications-free entry in Portugal, especially if you do not provide
this information for the police.

Their advices were:

- for teams bringing robots in their own luggage, if you use boxs to
accommodate them, try to have an easy access to box contents for a fast
customs check, if asked;
- the North entrance for FIL pavilions is from Sony square (a square
with a big Sony screen): besides being (probably) a spot for watching
some EURO2004 games, that square is also a place where soccer fans in
organized groups join together to go to Lisbon stadiums escorted by
police. During RobopCup2004 there will only be a game in Lisbon (one
semi-final on May 30) and that day Sony square should be crowded and
eventually critical depending on the teams qualified for that game;
- when in the vicinity of RoboCup2004 site (Nations Park) try to always
have the RoboCup2004 badge with you;
- if we want to do some sightseeing in Lisbon, specially during the
night, have a special care with places crowded with soccer fans.

* SITE OPENING HOURS: the RoboCup2004 site (FIL - pavilion 4) will be
open every day from 8am to 12pm (midnight).
