16 February 2004
4th ROBOCUP 2004 NEWS
(http://www.robocup2004.pt/)

Summary: Travel and Accommodation | Number of papers submitted to the
Symposium | Number of pre-registered teams | Qualification deadline

* TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION: Many of you have understandably complained
about the strict conditions imposed by RoboCup 2004 travel agent for
hotel reservations. This is mainly motivated by EURO2004 and the large
increase on the amount of people visiting Portugal during that period,
which lead hotels to impose pre-payment conditions well in advance to
the accommodation nights. Still, we managed to convince the travel agent
to drop the minimum 10 nights reservation requirement. Also, we made a
list of less expensive "hotels" (here called "Pensões" or
"Residenciais") which are not managed by Travel Agent and that seem to
still have plenty of rooms at very reasonable prices and conditions. You
can find that list at
http://www.robocup2004.pt/docs/PensoesResidenciaisList.pdf, as well as a
map with the hotel and the venue locations and
http://www.robocup2004.pt/docs/PensoesResidenciaisMap.pdf. Again, we
recommend that you book your travel (e.g., using the official carrier
discounts) and accommodation (through the travel agent or calling/faxing
one of the places in the list) ASAP. There are serious risks that later
you will not find any convenient accommodation and/or plane tickets.

* NUMBER OF PAPERS SUBMITTED TO THE SYMPOSIUM: 118 papers were submitted
to the 2004 Symposium, a similar number to last year, and a very
interesting figure, if we consider that the companion IAV2004 conference
also got about 300 submitted papers. So exciting post-competition
scientific events can be anticipated at this point.

* NUMBER OR PRE-REGISTERED TEAMS: 265 teams declared their intention to
participate in RoboCup 2004, total all the leagues, excluding Junior (no
numbers yet). This was calculated considering 65 Soccer simulation
teams, obtainted dividing by 3 the grand total of 196 pre-registered
teams in this league, as most soccer simulation teams participate in all
the 3 league competitions.

* QUALIFICATION DEADLINE: By March 1st, ALL teams (including Junior)
wishing to qualify for RoboCup 2004, MUST submit their qualification
material (different from league to league - check your league page under
'qualification'). A common document that must be submitted by March 1st
if your team needs travel support is the Travel Support Form.

Pedro Lima, Luis Custódio
(General Co-Chairs)
